Chamber of Commerce board members are volunteers who play a crucial role in guiding and supporting the organization and our community.

1.Strategic Planning: Board members are involved in setting the chamber's strategic direction. They may participate in the development of long-term goals, mission statements, and strategic plans.

2. Governance: Board members are responsible for ensuring that the chamber operates within its bylaws and adheres to legal and ethical standards.

3. Financial Oversight: Board members have a role in overseeing the chamber's finances. This includes reviewing budgets, financial reports, and ensuring that the organization remains financially sustainable.

4. Fundraising/ Event Support: Many chambers rely on fundraising efforts to support their programs and initiatives. Board members often play a key role in fundraising, which may include soliciting donations, securing sponsorships, and volunteering at Chamber events.

5. Advocacy: We advocate on behalf of our members and the business community. Board members participate in advocacy efforts.

6. Networking and Engagement: Board members are expected to be active in the community and to represent the chamber at various events and functions. They may also be responsible for engaging with chamber members and stakeholders.

7. Committee Involvement: Our board often has committees that focus on specific areas like marketing, events, or membership. Board members will be asked to chair or serve on these committees.

8. Fundamental Support:: Board members are expected to support the chamber financially through membership dues, events sponsorships, and will be asked to volunteer at Chamber events throughout the year.

9. Time Commitment: Serving on a chamber board can be time-consuming. Board members are expected to attend regular board meetings (1per month), membership meetings and committee meetings, as well as to dedicate additional time to chamber activities and events such as ribbon cuttings and major events.

10. Advocacy and Representation: Board members are seen as ambassadors for the chamber. They should promote the chamber's mission, values, and initiatives within the business community and the broader public.

11. Conflict of Interest: Board members must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and act in the best interests of the chamber as a whole rather than their personal interests or the interests of their businesses.

12. Continuing Education: Keeping up-to-date with best practices in governance, chamber management, and business trends can be important. Knowledge of the Board meeting procedures, Robert's Rules of Order, is important.

The above list is for general informational purposes. Prospective board members should carefully review the bylaws and expectations set by the Enumclaw Area Chamber of Commerce to understand their specific roles and responsibilities.
